Areas Of Focus
Sometimes strong emotions and experiences can take hold of our lives in unexpected ways that can feel both destabilizing and overwhelming. Looking for a therapist can feel like yet another task on the list. As a psychodynamic, attachment-focused, nervous systems-based and trauma-informed art therapist, I offer children, teens and adults a non-judgemental and safe space to explore such emotions. Art making can be used as a way to externalize feelings and experiences in an accessible, symbolic and contained way and the process itself can help to create space and opportunity for exploring more embedded attachment wounds and trauma. The goal in art therapy is not so much about the end product but more about the emotional, imaginative and expressive process in getting there.
Children are inherently action-oriented, playful and can readily access their imaginations. However as adults, we can lose this sense of whimsy and lightheartedness due to the daily struggles and challenges of managing work and relationships. For many of us, we do not give ourselves enough opportunities to play. Art making is not only playful, calming, and enjoyable, it can also be a wonderful way for us to come into relationship with our nervous systems and build connections with our sense of self and physical body, which for many people who have experienced trauma can be a particular challenge.
My areas of focus include anxiety, eco-anxiety, burn-out, depression, loss, addictions, identity exploration, relationship challenges, overcoming creative blocks, and trauma. I also specialize in working and supporting members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community navigate everyday challenges, minority stress and systemic barriers.
If you are interested in booking a session with me, I can offer you a 15 minute free consultation session where we can gauge therapeutic fit and answer any questions that you may have.
